Cultural Camp

July 19 to 25, 2026

CulturalCamp is a sleep-away camp for children ages 6 to 14 years who do not speak Latvian but who are interested in learning about their Latvian heritage. The goal of the camp is for the children to make new friends, enjoy the outdoor/indoor activities program, and learn some Latvian in a non-classroom setting, in the Latvian community of Tērvete. This community is located in the beautiful Laurentian mountains, located between Montreal and Ottawa.

**Please take note English and Latvian will be spoken during this session.

Most of the activities will take place outdoors (weather permitting) and will include: supervised swimming, sports, arts & crafts, music and dance program, and preparation for end-of-camp bonfire skits. Emphasis will be placed on having the children creatively express themselves, all in a safe environment. Rules of the camp will be explained to your child the first day and enforced to ensure a friendly atmosphere for every camper.

ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE INFORMATION

Arrival: 
Camp begins on Sunday, July 19 at 11:00 am. You can officially register and move your children into their appointed cabins and meet their counsellors between 10:00 - 11:00 am. Please use the parking spaces by the road, and do not drive into camp. Kids should be moved in and dressed in their Tervete t-shirts by 10:55 to be ready for the opening ceremony of the 3rd week. 

Departure:
Parents must remove campers belongings from their cabins between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM on Saturday, July 25th  and the cabins should be left in clean condition.
Children should be dressed in their Tērvete T-shirts and warm clothing for the evening.
 
At 6:00 PM, parents are invited to a shared potluck dinner at the tent area near the Big House – please bring something to grill or a salad to share.

The closing campfire will begin at 7:00 PM, followed by a candlelit lowering of the flag.
Afterwards, everyone is warmly invited to enjoy hot chocolate and refreshments in the dining hall.

After the flag ceremony, children officially return to your care.
